Holiday Community Read

This morning was no regular community read morning. Most Wednesday and Thursday mornings Ms. Lirenman invites all our parents to stay when the bell rings and read with us. But today was different. Today Ms. Lirenman opened her doors early and invited the parents to stay longer. She also provided snacks which included coffee (generously donated by Starbucks), juice, chocolate milk, bananas, oranges, strawberries, and Tim Bits from Tim Hortons. In the end most of our parents stayed for almost an hour, which is a lot longer than was planned. But they couldn't help it. We were all having too much fun enjoying great books, great food, and great company. We were even lucky enough to have Dr. Elisa Carlson, Director of Instruction come from the school board office. We know she's a really important lady because she had a lot to do with us getting our class iPad.  She even brought along her iPad and she let us read on it too.  Dr.  Carlson had a really cool app called The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore where things moved on every page.  Needless to say we had a really great community read today.  Our parents even asked if we could do it again every  month.  Ms. Lirenman wasn't so sure about that.  Here is a little video of our special community read morning.

  1. Dear Grade One,
It looks like your class had as much fun making Gingerbread Houses as my grade one class did! I wonder if you also ate as much candy while decorating your houses. I noticed that you have a classroom ipad. You might really enjoy the book (app) called The Monster at the End of This Book. We will be getting an ipad in January. Maybe you can share some of your favorite things to do on the ipad.

  2. Dear Ms. VanMaarion,
We just got our iPad before school holidays but we are loving it. Ms. Lirenman is trying to make sure that we all get to use it for something. We think she has a lot of ideas in her head for us next term and we can't wait. We'll have to make sure she checks out the book you are recommending. It sounds like it will be a good story.

Thank you so much for commenting on our blog. We love comments!
